Atalia Pucheta Martinez Obituary, Death; – A death investigation is ongoing following the discovery of a deceased woman in a wooded area in the northern suburbs on Saturday morning, according to police reports.
The individual has been identified as 23-year-old Atalia Pucheta Martinez, as confirmed by the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office. She had been reported missing from Mount Prospect.
Elk Grove Village police indicated that a motorist observed a person lying in Busse Woods, located near Higgins Road, approximately one mile west of Arlington Heights Road, around 9:30 a.m. on Saturday.
Mount Prospect police responded to a report of a missing woman in the 1400 block of Brownstone Court shortly before 2 p.m. on Saturday, which matched the description of the deceased found earlier in the forest preserve near Elk Grove Village. The missing individual was identified as Martinez.
The Cook County Sheriff’s Police Department, along with the Cook County Forest Preserve Police, is now leading the death investigation in collaboration with the police departments of Elk Grove Village and Mount Prospect.
The medical examiner has yet to determine the cause of death. Authorities reiterated on Sunday that there is no ongoing threat to the community, emphasizing that this incident appears to be isolated.
