April Kelley,Ricky Kelley, Obituary, Death; – The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is currently conducting an investigation into the deaths of a couple from Colbert, which authorities have indicated may resemble a murder-suicide scenario.
The deceased individuals were discovered on Sunday in their residence located on Brittany Point, a subdivision situated to the west of the city limits and just north of Georgia Highway 78.
The couple has been identified as April Kelley, aged 45, and her husband, Ricky Kelley, aged 48. Investigators believe that Ricky Kelley may have taken his wife’s life before subsequently ending his own.
Deputies were called to the residence by family members early in the afternoon, where they found two adult bodies on the floor, as detailed in the sheriff’s report.
Autopsies have been ordered, and the crime scene is currently under investigation. Sheriff’s Captain Jimmy Patton stated that all evidence points towards a murder-suicide.
Although the couple had separated, Patton noted that investigators are still determining the timeline of their arrivals at the home, where the tragic events unfolded. April Kelley was found on the living room floor with a gunshot wound to her head, while Ricky Kelley was located nearby, also with a head wound, and the firearm, a Ruger P96, positioned beneath his body.
A deputy reported that two weeks prior, he had served a temporary protection order against Ricky Kelley, which had been requested by his wife. At that time, April Kelley informed the deputy that she intended to stay with her family.
The couple was scheduled to attend a court hearing regarding their disputes on October 21, as indicated in the report. Family members visited the home after discovering a concerning Facebook video post made by Ricky Kelley. Upon arrival, they found the doors locked and were compelled to force entry through a door, according to the report.
The Facebook post has been documented by the sheriff’s office as part of the ongoing investigation. Additionally, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation has dispatched a forensics unit to the residence to assist in processing the crime scene, as stated by Patton.
