Anthony G Bechand Arrested; – State Police are currently on the lookout for a homicide suspect in the Brighton-Paul Smiths region.
According to Cohoes Mayor Bill Keeler, Anthony G. Bechand, 53, was the live-in partner of a woman whose remains were discovered in their Cohoes residence on Sunday.
Later that same day, New York State Police reported that Bechand’s white 2024 Chevrolet Silverado was found 150 miles away at the junction of county Route 60 and state Route 86 in Brighton.
Bechand is characterized as a white male, standing 5’11” tall, weighing 180 pounds, with hazel eyes and brown hair. Authorities indicate that he may be armed and poses a danger. His attire is currently unknown. The truck has a dent on the left side of the tailgate.
Anyone who has seen him or possesses information regarding his location is urged to reach out to the New York State Police at 518-897-2000.
“Do not approach him,” cautioned State Police spokeswoman Brandi Ashley. “Your help is crucial as this investigation progresses.”
She mentioned that there is a significant police presence in the vicinity where the truck was discovered, and that troopers conducted searches in the woods late into the night on Sunday, resuming their efforts on Monday morning.
In a Facebook update, Keeler stated that the victim has been identified as a 41-year-old woman, and it is believed she was murdered within the 30 hours leading up to the discovery of her body in the single-family home on Earl Lynn Court on Sunday.
“It is reasonable to assert that investigators are seeking to interview the victim’s boyfriend,” Keeler remarked regarding Bechand.
The journey from Cohoes to Brighton exceeds two and a half hours.
The New York State Police Major Crimes team and the Forensic Identification Unit are providing assistance with the ongoing investigation.
