Anthony DeAngelo Avila Obituary, Death; – A Birmingham man who was fatally shot over the weekend was identified on Monday morning.
According to the Birmingham Police Department (BPD), officers from the North Precinct were dispatched to the intersection of 11th Street North and 2nd Avenue North at approximately 6:19 a.m. on Saturday following a report of an individual down. Upon arrival, officers discovered 38-year-old Anthony DeAngelo Avila suffering from gunshot wounds at the scene.
A preliminary investigation indicated that the incident involved two individuals engaged in a verbal dispute that originated at the Church of the Reconciler. The confrontation escalated and continued to the 1000 block of 2nd Avenue North, where Avila was shot.
Birmingham police reported that the shooting took place beneath an Interstate Bypass, which is classified as state property despite being within the jurisdiction of Birmingham. Authorities have stated that the state has been informed.
