Anissa Zapata Obituary, Death; – A 21-year-old woman is facing felony charges in connection with a fatal accident that occurred in South Austin.
Emergency services were dispatched to the scene on Saturday evening on Menchaca Road, close to Davis Lane, where a pedestrian had been struck by a vehicle.
The pedestrian, whose identity has not yet been disclosed, was pronounced dead at the scene by Austin-Travis County EMS. The driver involved in the incident has been identified as Anissa Zapata, 21 years old. Authorities reported that Zapata was taken into custody following the accident and is charged with felony “accident involving death and driving while intoxicated.”
This incident marks the 20th fatal crash in Austin for the year 2025, contributing to a total of 24 fatalities. In comparison, there were 19 fatal crashes resulting in 19 deaths at the same point in 2024.
