Andre Matthews Obituary, Death; – Two people face murder charges after they allegedly got into a fight with another man just west of the Las Vegas Strip and then killed him, according to documents 8 News Now obtained.
Las Vegas Metro police arrested Joseph Skeirik, 30; and Vivian Jimenez, 34, on Sunday for the shooting death of Andre Matthews, documents said.
The shooting happened on Wednesday, Aug. 6 around 2 a.m. near Sahara Avenue and Richfield Boulevard. Arriving officers found Matthews lying in the road without a gunshot wound to his neck. Matthews died from his injuries on Aug. 8.
Speaking with witnesses and obtaining surveillance video, police learned Matthews worked at a nearby fast-food restaurant and was on his break at the time of the shooting, documents said. Video showed Matthews arguing with a man before the shooting.
According to a witness, the man had a swastika tattoo and repeatedly called Matthews a racial slur, documents said. Another witness told police Matthews asked the woman for a bite of her hot dog.
“Surveillance footage from multiple properties were [sic] recovered, and showed Andre running after the white male and female and within a short time of him catching up to them, the white male and female continued to run away from that location, and Andre was not seen on surveillance footage other than laying in the roadway,” police said.
Video showed the same man and woman, later identified as Skeirik and Jimenez, running away, police said.
Police allege Jimenez provided the gun Skeirik used to shoot Matthews, documents said. They added at no time did either call for help.
Jimenez faces three charges, including open murder. A judge declined to set bail due to the murder charge.
Skeirik faces five charges, including open murder and possessing a gun by a prohibited person due to a felony record. A judge declined to set bail due to the murder charge.
A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Aug. 27.
Police records identify the victim as both “Andre Matthew” and “Andre Matthews.” The coroner’s office had no information to release as of Tuesday.
