Anand Baghel Obituary, Death; – Authorities have confirmed the identity of a man who perished after going missing in Candlewood Lake in Sherman last week.
Anand Baghel, 55, from Hamden, was reported missing on Friday after he reportedly leaped off an anchored boat into the lake, as stated by the state Department of Energy and Environmental Protection. He did not come back to the surface.
A search operation involving multiple agencies was initiated in the vicinity, which transitioned into a recovery mission hours later when Baghel remained unaccounted for, according to officials. The search was temporarily halted before resuming the following morning. As per DEEP, Baghel’s remains were located shortly after 3 p.m. on Saturday. His identity was made public on Monday.
“Our thoughts are with the family and loved ones of the victim during this profoundly challenging time,” a DEEP representative remarked in a statement released over the weekend. “We offer our sincerest condolences and hope they can find solace and support as they mourn this heartbreaking loss.
“This event serves as a grave reminder of the risks associated with recreational activities in and around water,” the representative added. “Even seasoned swimmers may face unforeseen difficulties, and we encourage everyone who enjoys Connecticut’s lakes and waterways to take all necessary precautions for their safety and the safety of those nearby.
