Amira Harper Obituary, Death; – Amira Harper, aged 28, will be remembered as a devoted mother, as stated by her family.
Harper was married for a mere five months to the individual accused of shooting and killing her on Saturday night in front of her children.
The evening began peacefully on the 2600 block of Latona Street in South Philadelphia on July 19, with residents sitting on their stoops, but it swiftly escalated into violence with a barrage of gunfire and screams around 8:40 p.m.
“I just heard a lot of noise, like someone arguing, followed by screaming,” described Latifah Holloway.
Holloway, who resides just a few doors down, was shocked to discover that it was her friend, Harper, who was in need of assistance.
Following the shooting, surveillance footage captured a man leaving the residence.
This man was apprehended and has been identified as 28-year-old Zakiyy Bonds.
According to family members, Harper and Bonds were married in May of 2025 and resided in the Latona Street home with their children.
Holloway informed NBC10 that Harper’s children witnessed the tragic event.
“It’s just sad. It’s heartbreaking. My heart is shattered because she was truly a wonderful person. She was a friend to my daughter,” Holloway articulated.
Harper’s family is still grappling with the loss and emphasized that she was an exceptional mother to three children.
As reported by the Philadelphia Police Department, there have been 27 domestic violence homicides recorded this year, which is an increase of 10 compared to the previous year.
Harper’s family is in the process of making funeral arrangements.
Bonds has been charged with murder, and an investigation into this incident remains ongoing.
