Amari Peterson Obituary, Death; Modesto boy among Stockton mass shooting victims

Amari Peterson Obituary, Death; – A 14-year-old who was killed in a mass shooting at a child’s birthday party over the weekend in Stockton has been identified as Amari Peterson, a resident of Modesto.

His mother confirmed his identity and mentioned that she has set up a Venmo fundraiser to help cover expenses related to her child’s death. Donations can be made via her Venmo handle @Kimberly-Pangnanouvong.

A GoFundMe.com fundraiser was also established for the family.

Peterson was among four children who lost their lives during the shooting that took place on November 29 at a banquet hall located in the 1900 block of Lucile Avenue in Stockton.

“My baby was innocent,” the mother expressed. “We were simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. Who could have predicted that my baby would not return home with me?”

The young boy was remembered as loving, caring, and an exceptional athlete.

“He excelled in everything he attempted. He played basketball and football. I am at a loss for words. Please pray for me, my family, his friends, and everyone who knew him. My baby was cherished,” she added.
The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office reported that the victims ranged in age from 8 to 21 years old. The shooting also resulted in 11 additional injuries. The identities of the other victims have not yet been disclosed.

Sheriff’s spokesperson Heather Brent stated that law enforcement is dedicated to locating the suspect or suspects responsible for this tragic shooting. As of Monday, no arrests had been made, according to Brent.

Stockton Mayor Christina Fugazi announced a reward of $25,000 for information leading to the arrest of the shooter or shooters. Crimestoppers is offering a $10,000 reward for information that results in the arrest and conviction of those involved. I am contributing an additional $10,000, along with a $5,000 donation from Councilwoman Mariela Ponce. The total reward now amounts to $25,000,” Fugazi shared in a social media update.

The San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office urged anyone with information that could aid in the investigation to contact detectives at (209) 468-4400. Alternatively, they can reach out to Crime Stoppers.
