Alejandro Demery Arrested; – A week following the arrest of one man and the fatal shooting of another during a police-involved incident in Orem, authorities have released additional information regarding the event.

The Utah County Sheriff’s Office has identified the individual who was the focus of the initial investigation and search warrant as Alejandro Demery, aged 33. Arrest documents indicate that Demery had been under investigation for several weeks for allegedly distributing controlled substances across Utah County. On May 5, officials executed a search warrant and apprehended Demery along with two others as they departed from his residence in Orem.

When law enforcement later executed a search warrant at Demery’s home, they announced their presence as officers of the law. According to the sheriff’s office, ‘The members of the Utah County Major Crimes task force encountered a male who was not complying with the orders of the Law Enforcement officials.’ During this encounter, shots were fired by law enforcement, and a loaded handgun was found on the floor next to the individual who was shot. Despite efforts to save his life, the man succumbed to his injuries at the scene.

Authorities have yet to disclose the identity of the deceased or his potential connection to Demery. Demery faces charges including two counts of possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance, classified as second-degree felonies; one count of possession or use of controlled substance marijuana/spice, a class B misdemeanor; possession or use of a controlled substance, a class B misdemeanor; and use or possession of drug paraphernalia, a class B misdemeanor.

The Utah County Sheriff’s Office reported on May 12 that Demery was found with approximately 150 fentanyl pills, 11.8 grams (equivalent to 118 doses) of Methamphetamine, and a THC cartridge. Demery has been arrested and booked into the Utah County Jail on these charges. The Officer Involved Critical Incident Protocol has been initiated.
