Alejandro Calderon Obituary, Death; Police arrest man suspected of fatal North Long Beach shooting last month

Alejandro Calderon Obituary, Death; – A 24-year-old resident of Compton has been apprehended on charges of fatally shooting a man in North Long Beach last month, as reported by law enforcement officials.

Long Beach police have stated that Malik Cooper shot and killed 52-year-old Alejandro Calderon, a resident of Hawthorne, on March 17. Officers arrived at approximately 3:50 a.m. that evening at the 5400 block of Atlantic Avenue, where they discovered Calderon suffering from a gunshot wound to the upper body.

Personnel from the Long Beach Fire Department transported Calderon to a nearby hospital, where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries, according to police reports. Detectives from the LBPD later identified Cooper as a suspect in Calderon’s murder, as indicated by authorities. He was arrested on April 28 during a traffic stop in Compton, according to police. Cooper has been charged with murder, and his bail has been set at $2 million, as per the LBPD.

The motive behind the shooting is still under investigation, according to police. Authorities are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact Homicide Detectives Eric Thai or Chasen Contreras at 562-570-7244.
