Aleim Alavez Garcia Arrested; – Aleim Alavez Garcia, 25, was sentenced to 12 years in prison for driving under the influence of alcohol and killing four people last July when his Toyota Tacoma crashed into a Prius on SR-163 in Kearny Mesa.
On Tuesday, a judge sentenced Alavez, who had no criminal history, to a mid-term sentence of 12 years.
Last summer, Alavez pleaded guilty to driving under the influence. His blood alcohol level was twice the legal limit, and prosecutors say he was driving over 100 miles an hour when his truck crashed into the Pruis carrying four men.
“I want them to know I’m very sorry,” said Alavez in a statement to the court. “I mourn for each and every one of them every day.”
All four of the victims were refugees and in their 20s. Their families were not in court for the sentencing but watched online from overseas.
