Agapito Abreu Obituary, Death; – Authorities have confirmed the identity of the driver who lost his life in a three-vehicle accident in Newark on Monday as a man from Woodbridge.
Agapito Abreu, 59, from Port Reading, was operating an SUV heading north when the incident took place around 7:30 a.m. in the 700 block of Frelinghuysen Avenue, as reported by the Essex County Prosecutor’s Office.
According to the prosecutor’s office, Abreu’s vehicle was struck head-on by a southbound SUV that veered over the double-yellow lines.
The collision resulted in Abreu’s SUV crashing into a third vehicle, whose driver fortunately sustained no serious injuries.
Abreu was pronounced dead at the scene. His passenger, along with the driver of the other SUV, was transported to University Hospital in Newark.
As of Tuesday morning, the conditions of the victims were not immediately available.
No charges had been filed by early Tuesday.
The investigation remains ongoing, as stated by a spokesperson for the prosecutor’s office.
