Abdiqadir Ahmed Nur Obituary, Death; – One individual lost their life and multiple others suffered non-life-threatening injuries in an accident that took place Thursday afternoon in Rockbridge County, as reported by Virginia State Police.
According to the police, the incident happened at 5:08 p.m. on the northbound lane of Interstate 81 at mile marker 181. The collision involved ten vehicles, comprising six tractor trailers, three passenger cars, and a medical transport van that did not have a patient on board.
The deceased has been identified as Abdiqadir Ahmed Nur, a 36-year-old resident of Shakopee, MN. Authorities indicate that he was in the last vehicle involved in the incident and collided with several tractor trailers.
Police suggest that the crash occurred during heavy rainfall as traffic was slowing down due to an earlier two-vehicle accident just ahead. At that moment, drivers began to rear-end each other, obstructing the roadway, which initiated the chain reaction of collisions.
A helicopter was dispatched to airlift the medical transport driver, who suffered serious injuries; however, due to adverse weather conditions, the helicopter could not return to Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Consequently, the driver was transported to Rockbridge Community Hospital via ground transportation.
