Jacinto Remigo Obituary, Death; – A 73-year-old man has reportedly lost his life after falling from a sixth-floor apartment window while attempting to flee a home invasion in Manhattan.

Jacinto Remigo fell to his death from his residence in Washington Heights following a break-in by three burglars at approximately 4:40 a.m. on Saturday, November 23, as confirmed by police to NBC New York, CBS News, and ABC 7.

Surveillance footage acquired by CBS News shows one of the suspects traversing the scaffolding surrounding the building to gain entry, subsequently taking the elevator to the sixth floor. He then admitted his two accomplices, who had ascended via the fire escape.

As the suspects restrained a 40-year-old man, believed to be related to Remigo, the latter attempted to escape through the window. Reports from NBC New York and CBS News indicate that the man was unharmed during the incident.

Tragically, Remigo fell from the window and landed on the scaffolding shortly before 5:00 a.m. He was transported to Harlem Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to CBS News.

The intruders reportedly made off with an $8,000 gold chain and $200 in cash from the residence. It remains unclear whether the suspects had any prior knowledge of the victims, and the NYPD has not yet identified any suspects.

The NYPD did not respond immediately when contacted by PEOPLE for additional details. Heriberto Garcia, a friend of Remigo, recounted to NBC News witnessing him “climb out of the window and fall after getting out onto a small ledge to reach another window and getting stopped by an air conditioner.”

Neighbor Richard Ramsundarsingh, residing two floors below the victim, recounted being awakened by the sound of the fall. “There was a loud bang early in the morning. I heard the sound,” he stated to CBS News. “Two flights down. What if they had stopped on this floor? Or the floor before or somebody else? God knows what could’ve happened. It’s kind of scary now,” Ramsundarsingh added.

“When you think about it, it’s only two floors up, and you have no idea that someone just lost their life two floors up.”
