Vanessa Chester,Jason Hilaire Obituary, Death; – A couple was found shot dead in their home in Ohio last Monday. According to WFMJ, citing Columbiana County Sheriff Brian McLaughlin, a man and woman were found dead with apparent gunshot wounds at a home in West Township, Ohio.
Deputies responded the home after receiving a request for a welfare check, per the outlet.
WFMJ reported that dispatchers received a call soon after from a 16-year-old boy who had discovered the bodies of his mother, identified by WFMJ as Vanessa Chester, and his stepfather, Jason Hilaire, in the basement of the residence.
According to WFMJ, the man who contacted authorities for the welfare check said he received a 28-minute “ominous sounding voicemail” from Hilaire. The outlet noted that the couple was in the process of getting a divorce, with the sheriff’s office telling the station that it appears to be a murder-suicide.
Child Protective Services responded to the scene to care for the 16-year-old and his younger sister, per the station.
An investigation remains ongoing, WFMJ reported.
