Constantin Beldie Obituary, Death; – The individual fatally injured in a stabbing incident on Chicago’s Northwest Side on Tuesday afternoon, along with the suspect involved, has been named.

The Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the victim from Jefferson Park as Lacramioara Beldie, a 54-year-old resident of Chicago. According to the medical examiner’s report, she sustained multiple sharp force injuries, and her death has been classified as a homicide.

The deceased suspect has been identified as Constantin Beldie, 57, also from Chicago. Court documents reveal a heartbreaking narrative of a woman who was in fear for her safety, attempting to extricate herself from what she characterized as a perilous relationship with her spouse.

The alleged assailant had appeared in court just the previous Monday, facing charges of strangulation and assault against her, before he reportedly took her life the following day. Neighbors reported that surveillance footage indicated a man appeared to have waited for her as she walked along the sidewalk, at which point he launched his attack.

Many are describing this incident as a significant failure of the justice system, culminating in a tragic event on a residential street in the Jefferson Park area. An off-duty Chicago police officer attempted to assist Lacramioara Beldie during the alleged assault by her husband, who was armed with a knife.

“At first, I heard screams, a woman’s scream, followed by gunfire,” witness Thomas Desenfants recounted. “In that moment, your heart drops; you realize something horrific has occurred.”

The event transpired in the 5600-block of West Leland Avenue shortly after 2:20 p.m. The officer sustained a minor gunshot wound during the incident but was unable to prevent Lacramioara Beldie’s death.

“I observed the suspect fleeing the scene. The off-duty officer seemed to collapse due to his leg injury and did not notice the woman on the sidewalk until the police arrived,” Desenfants added.

Court records illustrate the plight of a woman who had been striving for months to keep her husband at bay, having sought not one but two protective orders against Constantin Beldie within the year, the most recent being filed last month following his assault charges.
