Juan Garcia Obituary, Death; – A victim has been confirmed in relation to a fatal accident that occurred on Alligator Alley on Tuesday afternoon.
As reported by the Florida Highway Patrol, the incident took place at 10:53 a.m. when a minivan collided with two individuals who were laying sod on northbound I-75 at mile marker 72. One of the workers, identified as Juan Garcia, 39, was tragically killed in the incident, while the other worker, Ahmed Munoz, 43, sustained minor injuries from debris. The driver, Darian Camacho, 37, stated that he “had a long night and was trying to escape some issues in Miami” before he fell asleep at the wheel.
Reports indicate that Camacho had been living in his vehicle in Miami. He claimed that he had not slept the previous night due to fears of “potential attackers” and mentioned that he experiences this situation almost every night, feeling as though he is constantly being observed. Camacho, originally from Cuba, has never possessed a driver’s license in the United States.
The arrest report indicated that Camacho had not used drugs or alcohol on the day of the accident. According to the Florida Highway Patrol report, Camacho is facing charges for operating a motor vehicle without a valid driver’s license, causing death, and not having a license plate assigned to the vehicle.
