James Gathers Murphy Obituary, Death; – The Charleston County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the identity of the moped operator who lost his life following a collision with a vehicle in Hollywood.
James Gathers Murphy, aged 74 and a resident of Hollywood, succumbed to injuries sustained in the incident at approximately 10:08 a.m. at the scene, as reported by the coroner. The accident took place at the intersection of Highway 162 and Salters Hill Road in Hollywood.
As per the Charleston County Sheriff’s Office, both the moped and the vehicle were traveling westbound on Highway 162 when they neared Salters Hill Road. At the intersection, the moped driver initiated a left turn while the vehicle attempted to overtake, resulting in the collision.
Emergency Medical Services arrived and commenced life-saving efforts; however, Murphy was declared deceased at the scene. The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office is currently conducting an investigation.
