Jose Luis Reyes Obituary, Death; – Authorities have disclosed the identity of a man who was fatally shot on Sunday in east Birmingham.
The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office has confirmed the victim as Jose Luis Reyes, a 36-year-old resident of Haleyville. Officers from the East Precinct were dispatched at 12:30 a.m. following reports of a shooting in the 1000 block of Huffman Road.
Upon arrival, they found Reyes unresponsive on the ground near several businesses, as stated by Officer Truman Fitzgerald. Birmingham medics transported the victim to UAB Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 2:19 p.m. Information regarding the ongoing investigation remains scarce, and no arrests have been made at this time.
Reyes marks the 141st homicide in the city this year, with 10 of those cases classified as justifiable and not considered criminal. In total, Jefferson County has recorded 176 homicides, including the 141 in Birmingham.
