Robert Smith Obituary, Death; – The Franklin County Coroner has confirmed the identity of a man who was fatally shot early Saturday morning on the east side of Columbus.
Robert Smith, aged 44, was declared deceased at approximately 1:59 a.m. in the 2000 block of Dana Drive, according to a representative from the coroner’s office. Law enforcement officials arrived at the scene following a report of gunfire around 1:45 a.m. Authorities indicated that Smith was seated in a van located in the parking lot of an apartment complex when the shooting occurred.
Witnesses informed the police that the assailant fled the scene, heading east on Dana Drive towards North Gould Road. Some accounts suggest the individual was on foot, while others reported that he was driving a white vehicle.
The police are urging anyone who may have video footage or photographs related to the incident to share them with detectives. As of Tuesday, no suspects have been identified, nor has a motive been established.
