A suspect is now in custody following an extended police standoff in downtown Las Vegas on Tuesday evening. The incident, which lasted for several hours, began around 5 p.m. and concluded close to 11 p.m., according to authorities.
Initial reports from the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department indicated the situation involved an officer discharging a weapon during the encounter. Police later confirmed that while an officer fired at the suspect, the individual was not injured and was safely taken into custody at approximately 10:25 p.m.
Officials stated that officers were first called to an apartment complex on North 11th Street just before 5 p.m. after receiving reports of property damage. Upon arrival, they located the individual on an upper floor of the building. During the interaction, the suspect reportedly displayed an object believed to be a firearm.
The individual then retreated into a nearby apartment and refused to come out, prompting a response from specialized units, including SWAT. After continued efforts, officers were able to resolve the situation and take the suspect into custody without further incident.
Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing, and additional updates may be provided as more information becomes available.
