Joaquin Gabriel Hernandez,Derrick Lamont Leach Obituary, Death; – A man is currently in custody and faces murder charges related to two distinct shootings that took place just one week apart, as reported by law enforcement agencies in Guilford County.

On November 16, at approximately 7:48 p.m., the Greensboro Police Department responded to a report of a disturbance in the 1500 block of Upland Drive in Greensboro.

Upon arrival, officers discovered 27-year-old Joaquin Gabriel Hernandez suffering from a gunshot wound. He was transported to the hospital by EMS, where he subsequently succumbed to his injuries.

At first, no suspect was identified in this fatal shooting, which marked the 33rd homicide of the year in Greensboro.

On Sunday at around 7:49 a.m., the Guilford County Sheriff’s Office responded to a shooting report in the 8800 block of Boylston Road in Colfax.

At the scene, investigators found 47-year-old Derrick Lamont Leach deceased from a gunshot wound.

The suspect was identified as 27-year-old Jose Cristian Bravo-Martinez, who was allegedly driving a stolen vehicle at the time.

Later, at approximately 10:16 a.m. on Sunday, deputies observed Martinez and attempted to initiate a traffic stop on the vehicle he was operating. Martinez failed to stop, leading to a brief pursuit before he was apprehended.

In relation to the fatal shooting in Colfax, Martinez faces several charges, including:

– Felony first-degree murder
– Possession of a stolen vehicle
– Two counts of felony robbery with a dangerous weapon
– Felony fleeing/eluding arrest
– Misdemeanor no operator’s license
– Misdemeanor reckless driving with wanton disregard
– Misdemeanor speeding
– Misdemeanor expired operator’s license

According to an arrest warrant, Martinez allegedly stole the vehicle from an individual by threatening to use a semiautomatic pistol and also took cell phones from four other individuals.

He is currently being held at the detention center in High Point without bond, awaiting his first court appearance scheduled for 2 p.m. on Monday.

At approximately 8:06 p.m. on Sunday, Greensboro police confirmed Martinez as the suspect in the homicide of Joaquin Hernandez.
