Matthew Moore Obituary, Death; – A moped operator from Dillon County has lost his life following a crash that occurred on Saturday night in Robeson County.
The incident took place at approximately 9:10 p.m. on US 501, east of Maxton, North Carolina.
Following an investigation, troopers from the North Carolina Highway Patrol discovered that a 2021 Lexus traveling west collided with a 2025 moped, which was also heading west, as reported by First Sgt. Sherwood Lewis.
Subsequent to the collision, the moped veered off the right side of the roadway and fell into a ditch, resulting in the driver being ejected, Lewis stated.
Lewis noted that the moped’s rear lights were not activated and the driver was wearing “dark clothing.”
The driver has been identified as Matthew Moore from Lake View, South Carolina, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
The NCHP indicated that Moore was not wearing a helmet that meets Department of Transportation standards, and it is currently unclear whether he was impaired at the time of the accident.
According to the NCHP, the other driver involved in the incident was neither injured nor impaired.
