Jose Hernandez Obituary, Death; – A traffic stop that occurred early Sunday morning resulted in the apprehension of a second suspect connected to a homicide investigation from October 2024.
As reported by the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department on social media, an IMPD officer was conducting patrols in the downtown area shortly before 5 a.m. on Sunday. The officer allegedly witnessed a vehicle committing two traffic infractions, prompting the officer to initiate a stop.
The post indicated that the four individuals inside the vehicle provided their names to the officer during the traffic stop. One of the passengers, an 18-year-old identified by IMPD, was confirmed to have an outstanding arrest warrant for charges of felony murder and robbery. These charges are linked to a reported fatal shooting that occurred during a robbery on the near south side of Indianapolis in October 2024. Previous reports indicated that officers responded to a shooting incident in the 300 block of Park Haven Way.
The victim, identified as 26-year-old Jose Hernandez, was transported to a local hospital in critical condition but was later pronounced dead. As the investigation progressed, detectives discovered that Hernandez was shot during a robbery.
Two suspects were identified in this case, including 33-year-old Brittany Norton and the unnamed teenager, who was taken into custody by IMPD on Sunday. Norton was arrested on January 3 due to her active warrant for murder and robbery charges.
Court documents reveal that Norton’s jury trial is set to commence on November 17 in Marion County.
