Shaunte Denise Canty Obituary, Death; – Police have identified the woman who was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Seat Pleasant on Tuesday.
The Prince George’s County Police Department said the young mother who died in the crash was identified as 35-year-old Shaunte Denise Canty of Washington, D.C.
The crash happened at around 3:50 p.m., when Seat Pleasant Police Department patrol officers saw a car driving in the Seat Pleasant Drive and Joplin Street area. The car had been reported stolen on Aug. 22. Officers began following the car from a distance, but did not turn on the cruiser lights to initiate a pursuit.
Preliminarily, police believe that the stolen car started to accelerate northbound on Sheriff Road towards Martin Luther King Jr. Highway. The car ran a red light and struck the side of Canty’s car. Canty was pronounced dead at the scene, and the child, who was a passenger in her car, was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.
