Luigi Accusani Obituary, Death;- Authorities have confirmed the identity of the pilot who tragically lost his life on Friday when a small aircraft crashed while attempting to land at Bangor International Airport.

Luigi Accusani, a 74-year-old from Italy, was the sole occupant of the private plane, which went down at approximately 1:20 p.m. in a grassy area just beyond the airport’s perimeter fencing, according to Bangor police.

Accusani had taken off from Goose Bay, Newfoundland, and was en route to Bangor International Airport (BGR) when the incident occurred. First responders discovered him deceased among the wreckage.

The airport’s runway was temporarily closed on Friday afternoon as emergency crews responded to the scene. Bangor police and fire officials received support from the Air National Guard Fire Department, airport emergency teams, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The cause of the crash is currently under investigation by the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board. Bangor police detectives and evidence technicians were present to assist at the site.

Authorities have requested that anyone who recorded footage of the crash share it via an online upload link. Several aviation enthusiasts were reportedly filming aircraft at the time of the incident, officials noted.
