Jack Wood Obituary, Death; – A man from Lynn Haven is facing charges of DUI manslaughter following a crash on August 24 that resulted in the death of a 64-year-old motorcyclist from Panama City Beach.
Alexander Blair Morrison, aged 26, was arrested on multiple charges including DUI manslaughter, DUI causing serious bodily injury, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, and leaving the scene of an accident resulting in serious bodily injury after the incident on Thomas Drive.
As per a news release from the Florida Highway Patrol and an arrest affidavit, Jack Wood, 64, of Panama City Beach was riding a motorcycle westbound on Thomas Drive around 1:20 a.m., accompanied by a 28-year-old passenger, Chastity Lindberg from Fort Walton Beach. Morrison was driving an SUV behind them, and the FHP reported that he failed to stop or change lanes in time, colliding with the rear of the motorcycle just west of Bonita Street.
The impact caused the motorcycle to overturn, ejecting both Wood and Lindberg, with the motorcycle ultimately coming to rest in the eastbound lanes of Thomas Drive, according to the release. First responders pronounced Wood dead at the scene, while Lindberg was transported to Ascension Sacred Heart Bay Hospital with critical injuries.
Morrison did not sustain any injuries. Following the collision, Morrison drove to Joan Avenue, as stated by the FHP. Officers from the Panama City Beach Police Department located the vehicle and detained the driver until the FHP arrived.
Morrison was subsequently taken to a local hospital and then transferred to the Bay County Jail. He is currently held in the Bay County Jail on a bond of $600,000.
