Jesus Mario Medina Arrested; – A 29-year-old man from Southeast Texas is facing two charges of intoxication manslaughter following a devastating crash on Interstate 10 early Saturday morning that resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to two others.

Jesus Mario Medina, aged 29, was apprehended after the collision, which took place around 2:50 a.m. on August 9, 2025, in the 800 block of Interstate 10 North near Harrison Avenue. According to Beaumont police, both vehicles involved in the incident “burst into flames upon impact.”

Two individuals were declared dead at the scene after being discovered inside a 2014 Ford passenger vehicle that was “completely engulfed” in flames. Two additional individuals were transported by ambulance to a Beaumont hospital in unknown conditions.

As of Monday morning, the identities of the two deceased individuals have not yet been released by the police.

Medina acknowledged that he was the driver of a Chevrolet Colorado that was part of the accident, as stated in a probable cause affidavit related to the case. A Beaumont Police officer noted that he “detected the distinct smell of an alcoholic beverage on Medina’s breath and observed his glassy eyes” while conversing with him at the scene, according to the affidavit.

He was processed at the Jefferson County Correctional Facility at 1:19 p.m. on Saturday. His bond was established at a total of $200,000 — $100,000 for each count of intoxication manslaughter. Should he post bail, he will be required to utilize an ignition interlock device while operating a vehicle.

Medina informed the police that “the other vehicle was stationary in the roadway without lights on and he collided with it,” as per the affidavit. After being informed of his Miranda rights, Medina “confessed to consuming alcohol and stated that he had looked down at his phone, and when he looked up, the vehicle was halted in the roadway without lights, making it impossible for him to avoid it.”

Field sobriety tests were conducted, which included horizontal gaze nystagmus, one-leg stand, and walk-and-turn exercises. Officers present at the scene concluded that “Medina’s performance on these tests indicated that he had lost the normal use of his mental and physical faculties due to alcohol consumption.”

“I believe that had Medina not lost the normal use of his mental and physical faculties due to the ingestion of alcohol and not driving distracted he would have been able to see the vehicle and avoid the collision that ultimately caused the death of two individuals,” an officer wrote in the affidavit.

Medina refused to provide a blood sample, but officers got a search warrant to secure one. This is a developing story. We will update with more if and when we receive more confirmed information.
