Louis Michael,Leoba Valdez Obituary, Death;- Colorado officials are releasing additional information regarding the tragic accident that occurred this week on Red Mountain Pass, where a girl miraculously survived a 320-foot plunge in a vehicle, while two other adults inside the car lost their lives.
The two deceased adults were seated in the front of the vehicle and were both residents of New Mexico, as reported by the Ouray County Coroner’s Office. They were identified as 42-year-old Louis Michael and 79-year-old Leoba Valdez, with the man being the father of the girl.
The incident took place south of Ouray on Tuesday morning along a segment of Highway 550, known as the Million Dollar Highway, which climbers refer to as “The Waterfall.” The vehicle rolled down the mountainside, prompting a complex rescue operation that involved the use of ropes. The investigation into the cause of the crash is currently underway.
“We extend our heartfelt condolences to the families, friends, and loved ones of Mr. Michael and Ms. Valdez during this profoundly challenging time,” stated the Ouray County Coroner’s Office in a news release.
This crash marked the first of three separate accidents that occurred on Highway 550 within a span of three days.
