Carter Wiegand Obituary, Death; – Authorities have identified the man killed in a vehicle crash in the Town of Phelps on Tuesday.
The Vilas County Sheriff’s Office responded to the crash at 6:26 a.m. for a single-vehicle crash on STH 17 near Hansen Hill Road. The 911 caller said a truck was in a ditch and had hit a tree.
When deputies arrived on scene, they found 31-year-old Carter Wiegand of Rhinelander inside the vehicle and not breathing. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Responding agencies include Phelps Fire, Phelps Rescue, Phelps Ambulance, Vilas County Highway Department, Oneida County Medical Examiner’s Office and Vilas County Sheriff’s Office.
The crash is still under investigation.
