Ricardo Kevon Colbert-Lyles Arrested; – A man has been sentenced to 25 years in prison following the murder of a teenager in 2022, according to officials.

Ricardo Kevon Colbert-Lyles, 24, from Waldorf, entered a guilty plea in May for the first-degree murder of Aden Christopher Garcia, 19, as stated by Maryland State’s Attorney for Charles County, Anthony B. Covington.

On October 23, 2022, a caller contacted 911 to report that his friend had been shot, later identified as Garcia, in Waldorf. The caller indicated that he was transporting his friend to Southern Maryland Hospital Center for medical assistance, Covington reported.
Officers met the caller, and Emergency Medical Services transported Garcia to the hospital. Unfortunately, Garcia succumbed to his injuries the following day, Covington noted.

Colbert-Lyles, along with a co-defendant, Dalvin Devonte Risi, and another individual, had convened at Risi’s vehicle to sell drugs to Garcia in Waldorf. However, instead of purchasing drugs, Garcia departed the vicinity of the car and returned home, Covington explained.

“Without Colbert-Lyles, none of this occurs. Without Colbert-Lyles, there is no [shooter],” remarked Assistant State’s Attorney Jonathan Beattie during the sentencing.

Colbert-Lyles and the other suspect instructed Risi to drive to Garcia’s neighborhood located at the 2700 block of Albemarle Place in Waldorf, as reported by the Charles County Sheriff’s Office at the time of Garcia’s death.
The suspect then exited the vehicle, approached Garcia (who was in another car), and fired multiple shots, striking him once in the head, Covington stated.

Following the shooting, the suspect returned to Risi’s Nissan Versa and fled the scene with Colbert-Lyles and Risi, Covington added.

The murder was recorded on surveillance footage, which revealed that Risi was the driver. As the shooting transpired, Risi attempted to leave the area, but Colbert-Lyles instructed Risi to remain for the shooter, Covington reported.

Upon his release, Colbert-Lyles will be subject to five years of probation. Should he breach the conditions of his probation, he would face a life sentence, Covington concluded.
