Jeffrey Kukay Obituary, Death; Employee found dead at Ottawa County Regional Water Treatment Plant identified

Jeffrey Kukay Obituary, Death; – The individual discovered deceased within a water tank on Monday at the Ottawa County Regional Water Treatment Plant has been named.

As per a report from the Ottawa County Sheriff’s Office, they responded to the site and found a male, identified as Jeffrey Kukay, floating face down in a tank filled with water.

The report indicates that deputies were informed Kukay worked alone from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. at the facility. Additionally, the sheriff’s office stated that Kukay had completed a water sample test at 7 p.m., but no subsequent tests were conducted.

According to the report, Kukay was equipped with a safety harness that was connected to a safety line descending the center of a ladder.

The report mentions that the tank was drained to facilitate the removal of the body. It also states that there were no signs of bleeding or foul play.

This incident led to a boil advisory being issued for several areas across Ottawa County:

– Elmore
– Oak Harbor
– Port Clinton
– Marblehead
– Catawba
– Danbury
– Portage Township
– Erie Township
– Salem Township
– Bay Township
– Harris Township

Officials have indicated that the advisory is a precautionary measure due to concerns that the incident may have affected water quality.

There have been no verified reports of water contamination, according to officials.

The sanitary engineer has stated that chlorine levels in the water system have been temporarily elevated to ensure proper disinfection due to the water issue.

Residents and businesses in the affected areas are advised to boil all water intended for drinking, cooking, making ice, brushing teeth, or washing dishes. Officials recommend bringing water to a rolling boil for at least one full minute prior to use.

The Ottawa County EMA has announced that bottled water will be distributed to residents impacted by the situation on Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., or until supplies are exhausted, at The Chapel, located at 4650 E. Port Clinton Eastern Road in Port Clinton.

Residents are limited to one case of bottled water per household and are requested to present identification that verifies their address.
