John Owen Obituary, Death; – The individual who lost his life in a fire on Monday evening has been identified as John Owen, a resident of Vicksburg. At 6:09 p.m. on Monday, the Vicksburg Fire Department received a call regarding a structure fire at 338 Marian Lane.
Upon their arrival, Vicksburg Fire Chief Derrick Stamps reported that fire crews observed visible smoke emanating from all sides of the building, with flames bursting through the roof. Firefighters managed to confine the fire to the bathroom area. Chief Stamps stated, “Inside, they found an unresponsive male who had unfortunately succumbed to smoke inhalation.” He confirmed the identity of the deceased as Owen, who had served as the Assistant Traffic Supervisor in the city of Vicksburg’s traffic department.
“It is with profound sadness that we recognize the loss of a committed member of the City of Vicksburg team,” remarked Vicksburg Mayor George Flaggs Jr. “His dedication to public service exemplified the highest standards of our municipal workforce. “I am deeply saddened to learn of the death of one of our dedicated city employees in a house fire last night,” expressed Mayor-elect Willis Thompson. “My thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, and coworkers during this profoundly tragic time. May God provide peace and strength to all who knew him. Please join me in prayer as we grieve the loss of one of our own today in Vicksburg.” Chief Stamps indicated that the cause of the fire remains undetermined, and Owen’s body is being sent to the state crime lab for an autopsy.
