Jai Marc Howell Obituary, Death; – Authorities have confirmed the identity of the individual who was shot and killed by Baltimore police detectives on Monday. Jai Marc Howell, aged 26, succumbed to his injuries following the incident on York Road, as reported by the Independent Investigations Division of the Maryland Attorney General’s Office, which is conducting a standard investigation into the matter.
According to city police, officers approached Howell at approximately 1:30 p.m. on Monday in the vicinity of the 4600 block of York Road, close to East Cold Spring Lane. Baltimore Police Commissioner Richard Worley stated that the officers intended to engage with an individual they deemed necessary to question, at which point Howell fled the scene. On Tuesday, the IID disclosed that three officers pursued Howell on foot while another officer followed in a vehicle.
The IID’s statement indicated that the officers issued verbal commands to Howell, which he disregarded. Police reported that Howell fired at the officers multiple times, prompting them to return fire, resulting in his injury. Commissioner Worley noted that the patrol vehicle sustained at least four or five bullet impacts. Following the incident, the officers provided assistance to Howell, who was subsequently transported to a hospital where he later passed away. Commissioner Worley confirmed that no officers sustained injuries, and the motive behind the shooting remains unknown.
On Thursday, the IID identified the involved officers as Detective Enger Jimenez, a four-year veteran, Detective Steven Foster, an eleven-year veteran, and Detective Tony Tiburzi, a five-year veteran, all of whom are part of the Northern District Action Team. The IID’s statement also mentioned that a semiautomatic firearm equipped with an extended magazine was found in proximity to Howell.
