Tiara Pitts,Katelyn Berger Obituary, Death; – Family and friends are grappling with an immense loss following a tragic car accident that occurred early Sunday morning, claiming the lives of two individuals and leaving two others in critical condition.
The incident took place around 4:30 AM on I-77 south, near the junction with Interstate 64, when the vehicle collided with a cement barrier, veered off the interstate, and ultimately came to rest at the Martin Marietta Charleston Yard on Pennsylvania Avenue. The deceased have been identified by their families as Tiara Pitts, aged 29, and Katelyn Berger, aged 30. Carrie Maynard, a family friend, expressed her sorrow, highlighting the family’s extensive contributions to the community through various charitable activities, including food service and clothing drives.
Katelyn’s colleagues at Wendy’s in Putnam County described her as a delightful presence at work, with Riley Thornhill noting that she made their jobs easier, particularly in the drive-thru. Titan Ballengee reminisced about their weekend breakfasts together, emphasizing her sweet nature. Katelyn’s coworkers remarked that she fostered a familial atmosphere at work, making them feel at home as they navigated their first jobs.
Maynard fondly recalled Tiara’s enthusiastic support at her son’s sports events, describing her as a proud and outspoken mother who was also kind-hearted. A GoFundMe campaign established for their mother, Sylvia Berger, has already garnered over $11,000, and Maynard encourages others to contribute to a family that has consistently given back to the community.
