Matthew Westberg Obituary, Death; – The San Joaquin County Medical Examiner’s Office has confirmed the identity of the cyclist who tragically lost his life in Acampo on Monday as 55-year-old Matthew Westberg from Galt.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Westberg was cycling on Jahant Road, east of the Highway 99 Frontage Road, at approximately 4:30 a.m. when an unidentified vehicle approached from behind. For reasons yet to be determined, the vehicle struck Westberg, causing him to be thrown from his bicycle into an irrigation ditch located south of Jahant Road. Unfortunately, Westberg did not survive his injuries at the scene, and the driver of the vehicle fled the location.
The CHP is actively seeking the driver, and anyone with relevant information is encouraged to reach out to the agency’s Stockton Office at 209-938-4800.
