Alan Smith Obituary, Death; – A man lost his life and his passenger sustained serious injuries in a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 78 on Sunday afternoon.
New Jersey State Police have identified the deceased as 78-year-old Alan Smith from Nova Scotia, Canada, and his passenger, 78-year-old Patricia Harvey, as seriously injured.
Authorities responded to the incident at approximately 4:45 p.m. at milepost 7.8, where a Peterbilt semi-trailer was parked on the right shoulder. Meanwhile, a Ford F-150 towing a camper and another unidentified vehicle were traveling eastbound on the highway.
The unidentified vehicle struck the side of the Ford pickup, causing it to veer onto the shoulder and collide with the parked semi-trailer, according to State Police. The unidentified vehicle then continued eastward.
Smith, who was driving the pickup, suffered fatal injuries, while Harvey was airlifted to a nearby hospital, as reported by State Police. The investigation into the crash is ongoing.
