Fredi Aquilar Carrasco,Leobardo Diaz Obituary, Death; Coroner identifies 2 men killed in separate but linked shootings in Waukegan

Fredi Aquilar Carrasco,Leobardo Diaz Obituary, Death; – The coroner has disclosed the identities of two men who succumbed to injuries sustained in separate yet interconnected shootings on the same residential street in Waukegan on Sunday evening.

 

TFredi Aquilar Carrascohe Waukegan Police Department, along with the Waukegan Fire Department, responded to a report of gunfire around 7:20 p.m. on the 1900 block of West Greenwood Avenue. Upon arrival, officers and paramedics discovered a man in his twenties who had been shot and was bleeding profusely.

Lake County Coroner Jennifer Banek identified him as Leobardo Diaz, 28, a resident of Waukegan. Diaz was found unconscious and not breathing, prompting officers to initiate CPR, as indicated by fire department radio communications. Paramedics subsequently transported Diaz to Vista Medical Center East in Waukegan, where he was pronounced dead, according to Banek.

Later, authorities located a second victim who had been shot further down the street, in the 1700 block of West Greenwood Avenue. Paramedics arrived shortly after 8 p.m. and confirmed that the man in his thirties was deceased at the scene, as reported by Banek.

The deceased was identified as Fredi Aquilar Carrasco, 31, also from Waukegan. Aquilar Carrasco was found outside in the yard of a residence. The Lake County Coroner’s Office attended both the hospital and the scene to take custody of the bodies.

An autopsy conducted on Monday revealed that Diaz died from a gunshot wound to the back, while Aquilar Carrasco’s autopsy indicated he died from a gunshot wound to the head, as stated by Banek.

The Major Crime Scene Unit of the Waukegan Police Department is investigating the incident. Sources indicate that although the two shootings occurred separately, they stemmed from the same incident. The coroner’s office has yet to determine the manner of death for both individuals. The Waukegan Police Department has not provided details regarding the circumstances of the case but has indicated that further information will be forthcoming.
