Harleigh Dills Obituary, Death; – A judge in Dale County is currently deliberating on whether to grant bail to a former Marine and resident of Dothan, who is accused of fatally shooting his girlfriend, a mother of three, in the face with an AR-15 rifle. Dustin Rigsbee faces a charge of murder in connection with the death of Harleigh Dills.

Dills was discovered deceased in a trailer located in the Summer Chase trailer park on Mance Newton Road at approximately 10:00 a.m. on Friday. During a hearing related to Aniah’s Law on Monday morning, Dothan Police investigator Scott Spivey provided testimony indicating that Rigsbee shot Dills with a high-powered rifle around 1:30 a.m. on Friday before fleeing to his mother’s residence in Jack, situated in northern Coffee County.

Investigator Spivey reported that upon arriving in Jack, Rigsbee informed his mother that he had accidentally shot and killed Dills. Subsequently, at around 9:30 a.m., Rigsbee’s mother contacted 911, informing dispatch that her son had unintentionally killed his girlfriend. “She did the right thing and called 911,” stated Investigator Spivey.

The investigator further noted that Dills was likely shot at close range in the face with the high-powered rifle before her body was moved to the master bedroom, leaving a significant blood trail. Her body was ultimately found on the bedroom floor, covered with a blanket.

According to Investigator Spivey, three of Rigsbee’s children and two of Dills’ children, aged between 2 and 11, were present in the trailer at the time of the incident. Rigsbee subsequently transported all the children to his mother’s home in Jack.

When law enforcement arrived at the mother’s residence following the 911 call, Rigsbee fled into the woods while wearing a bulletproof vest and armed with the AR-15 and a knife, leading to an eight-hour standoff with officers, as reported by Sheriff Scott Byrd. During this standoff, Rigsbee communicated with officers via phone, threatening to shoot both the authorities and himself. He was ultimately taken into custody and transported to Dale County.

Rigsbee’s attorney, David Harrison, noted that Rigsbee, who has no prior criminal history, was honorably discharged from the Marine Corps.
