Makenzie Jackson Obituary, Death; Lee Co. student dies, man arrested after fleeing from deputies on motorcycle

Makenzie Jackson Obituary, Death; – A student from Lee County has tragically lost her life, and a man has been apprehended following a pursuit by law enforcement on a motorcycle.

As reported by the Lee County Sheriff’s Office (LCSO), shortly after midnight on January 1, a deputy observed a motorcycle speeding in the 1700 block of Philema Road. The deputy attempted to initiate a traffic stop after the motorcycle passed at a high speed, but the rider accelerated instead. The motorcycle was recorded traveling at speeds exceeding 90 mph.

LCSO Chief Deputy Lewis Harris estimated that the pursuit lasted approximately 5 miles before the motorcycle collided with a trash can in the 800 block of Forrester Parkway around 1:20 a.m. Both the operator and the passenger were ejected from the vehicle.

The operator, identified as 19-year-old Michael Evans, sustained minor injuries and was arrested shortly after receiving medical treatment. The passenger, 18-year-old Makenzie Jackson, a Lee County student, suffered severe injuries and was transported to Phoebe Putney Hospital, where she was pronounced dead at approximately 8 a.m. by Lee County Deputy Coroner Martavius Marcus.

The incident report indicates that neither individual was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident. According to LCSO, Evans is currently detained at the Lee County Jail and faces multiple charges from the Georgia State Patrol, including:

– Vehicular homicide
– DUI
– Failure to maintain lane

The Georgia State Patrol and the Lee County Sheriff’s Office are conducting an investigation into this incident.
