Willie “Mistah Man” Bernstine, aged 32, was fatally shot upon arriving for work on 14th Street at 7:15 a.m. on December 31.
He is survived by a devastated wife, along with their infant and toddler. The victim’s mother, Leah Freeman, described him as a dedicated and affectionate father who provided for his family. “He had a passion for dogs, horses, travel, music, and motorcycles. All of that was abruptly cut short,” she expressed on a GoFundMe page.
The Oakland Police Department has initiated an investigation, but no arrests have yet been made. Freeman expressed her inability to comprehend why anyone would wish to harm her son, stating, “That’s a choice.”
